Night of the Living Dead (1968) - favourite zombie horror

For me, this film, produced in 1968 originally black and white, is my favourite zombie film. It is honestly one of my favourite horrors of all time. It doesn't matter if it's really old, or lacks in quality. It is a masterpiece. I thought to myself - surely this film cannot deliver such an exquisite horror, after being made in 1968.

War Of The Worlds (2005) - decent sci-fi thriller

I have always adored this film since the first time I seen it. I remember when I first watched it - I was absolutely terrified, being only a young boy, and I had a pillow in front of my face for the majority of the film. It's quite funny actually when I think about it. Although, I've seen it several times since then and I must admit, it's a really good thriller in my opinion.

The Sixth Sense (1999) - Exceptional Psychological Thriller

What an absolutely fantastic piece of work directed by M. Night Shyamala. Honestly after watching this film I was overwhelmed. Not only is the film itself exceptional, but the film is perfectly concluded with a twist. One that you perhaps may have not expected, however I anticipated it coming later into the film. I'll do my best not to address any sort of spoilers but the ending is remarkable.

Halloween Special - Top 5 Halloween Horrors

Happy Halloween to all! I thought I'd delay my Wednesday's blog post to use more time to write an epic Top 5 list of some terrifying horrors that you should consider on Halloween. So without further ado, I'll get to the awesome list!

Carrie (2013) - no mercy...

WOW. This by far, is one of the best horrors I have seen in a long time! Believe it or not, I'm reviewing this masterpiece with no knowledge on the original film in 1976, and so perhaps the original may be better? You tell me! As you can see, it gets very decent ratings (well for a modern horror film anyway):-

• Rotten Tomatoes - 49%
• Metacritic - 53%

For me, Rotten Tomatoes were harsh on this film. I felt IMDB gave Carrie an appropriate score, since it was a very successful remake to me. There were plenty of thrilling moments, and the film revolved around a brilliant story of Carrie being bullied at school.

Elena - Chapter 6

Within a few moments after calming his beloved wife Cindy, Malcolm quickly ran down the stairs to clean up. After closing the door, he heard a lot of people outside from the square. His instincts immediately suggested he should join them to see how long the power cut was going to last, and so he ran up to get Cindy who was now rather calm but still startled. After a couple of minutes, they left. Cindy had still not said a word since her attempt to convince her husband she had seen Elena.
In about 5 minutes time, after walking in silence Malcolm and Cindy had arrived in the square. Several small families and groups sat around a statue that was central to the square, and Malcolm began to ask anyone if they had seen Baldo.

Elena - Chapter 5

Malcolm jumped at the sight of the missing bunny rabbit teddy and cursed quickly under his breath. "What's the matter?" Cindy exclaimed rather anxiously. Malcolm did not reply to this but merely, and very slowly, raised his hand to point his finger towards the desk where the bunny rabbit teddy was last seen. Cindy quickly glared round at this location and her eyes widened wider in pure shock. "Oh my God, what is happening! " said Cindy nervously.

The Mist (2007) - impressive modern Sci-Fi thriller

I was quite impressed with this film. Similarly to any other modern thriller I have seen, I misjudged this thinking it would be full of overpowered CGI and a pathetic story line. Well I was very intrigued and on the opposite side of the fence to my initial opinion after watching this. I highly recommend this film to anyone. It has a different kind of approach that any other horror would as it seems to go into a lot of depth with the central characters, and conveys the extremities they can reach when being under chaotic situations.

Friday The 13th Part 2 (1981) - Jason returns!

I watched this film with a question. Will we finally see the face of Jason or will the franchise continue with concealing this thrilling killer? About halfway into the film, people were still being killed by someone who was recording in first person until about the last 20 minutes of the film. Yes, we finally saw Jason himself! So about three quarters into the film, we came across the initial appearance of him. Just a guy wearing casual clothes, with some sort of cloth mask over his head. I was thrilled to finally see him, and watching the second film for so long. I was very impressed with the ending in the film in particular.

Orphan (2009) - very creepy film!

So after watching many remakes and films with similar concepts and plots in the decade of the 2000's, I thought of this horror to be another lame failure. I remember clearly setting out to watch this at the weekend with very low expectations. Since the year 2000, I have been forced to watch modern horror really as I have seen most of the horror films from the 70's to 90's. However, I was rather impressed with this thrilling, mysterious film. Not only was it not a remake, but for once in the 2000's, the film was completely unlike any other classic produced years ago.

New Short Story! - Elena - Chapter 1

Bennanio is a beautiful place. Casually perched on the top of a glamorous mountain situated just outside the city of Lucca, Italy. About an hour north of Lucca, after hurdling a large group of mountains, was where this beautiful location exists. The ideal holiday location – well for Malcolm anyway. For a couple containing Malcolm and Cindy – both aged 45 – this was the perfect place.

Cindy sat there relaxed on her seat in the second last row of the Ryan Air flight approaching Pisa, Italy. She was staring out of the window to the very appealing country of Italy, nice and comfortably, with some chilled music through her earphones to accompany her peacefulness.

World War Z 3D (2013) - sublime action thriller

(WARNING! REVIEW MAY CONTAIN SPOILERS)

Marc Foster's World War Z is an absolutely exceptional film based on the spread of a new virus, leading to an 'infected' society - in other words - what you may call a zombie outbreak. However, in my opinion, I wouldn't refer to the infected as 'zombies' as they seem too wild to be the normal 'zombies' you used to see decades ago. I would nowadays call them merely - 'infected' humans. I miss the old days, where zombies were awesome to see, wandering around slowly in attempt to find any human meat (however we still see it in the Walking Dead). 

Halloween 2 (1981) - Michael Myers returns!

I was very excited to seeing the sequel to the first Halloween film, after we witnessed Michael Myers escape his supposed 'certain death'. I've seen this film receive many different opinions - positive and negative; mainly positive though. I am one of the positive voters, as in my opinion it is simply a fantastic attempt as a sequel to the previous slasher. I found most of the film very good, especially some of the death scenes which built suspense and momentum! However, I can only think of two ways to criticise it. The acting in some scenarios was a letdown in my opinion, and when Laurie Strode (Jamie Lee Curtis) is attempting to escape through the ventilation grill, it took forever for Michael Myers to walk over to her and pull her back down.

My Bloody Valentine (3D) (2009) - Insane massacre!

(WARNING REVIEW MAY CONTAIN SPOILERS)

I have to say, for all of those who are huge fans of slasher horrors; this by far is the best film for you! The gore starts from the moment the film starts by covering the history of the massacre in the old coal mine ten years ago, and throughout the film right until the end. If you are really that interested in the gore itself more than the horror, then the 3D feature within the film perfectly ensures that human eyes, hearts and other body parts coming flying out of the screen towards you! The film is full of jump-scares, although some are unfortunately unexpected. For the full horror experience, I recommend that if you decide to watch this, ensure that you are shrouded in darkness! The film itself is very eerie at points and I believe that this is down to the character of 'the miner' and the spooky mines themselves. 

The Omen (1976) - Don't mess with the Devil's child...

(WARNING REVIEW MAY CONTAIN SPOILERS)

I'll immediately give you some advice guys - don't watch the 2006 remake of this classic. Whether you have seen the 1976 Omen or not, it will completely ruin it. Never rely on remakes guys, as the majority of them destroy the old classics. Well to be fair, one exception for my rule not to watch remakes is the Evil Dead (2013) remake. However, apart from that epic film, you shouldn't really consider watching remakes - especially if you lived through the 60's to the year 2000, where horrors made then have now became legendary classics. My opinion of The Omen (the 1976 version now guys) was that it was very different and imaginative at the time it was made. I mean, for the devil to control the body of Damien (Harvey Stephens) was a remarkable idea. 

Evil Dead (2013) - Another successful remake

Usually nowadays, the remakes of fantastic classic horrors seem to be getting worse, rather than better. In my opinion, all this is down to overpowered and needless CGI. However, I thought the remake of Evil Dead was very imaginative, and rather successful. After reading some reviews, I am rather inquisitive as to why a lot of people are giving it negative reviews. I thought it was fairly similar to The Cabin In The Woods (2012), as there were many fairly related moments and ideas such as the obvious - some friends hanging out in a cabin in the middle of the woods! Also, the 'dead' were awoken through some type of witchcraft by Eric reading the Book of The Dead and similarly in The Cabin In The Woods, Dana reads an old book found in the midst of some old relics, which awakens the dead.

Preview - 2015 Psychological Horror - The Chair

I decided to preview another awesome looking horror which is estimated to be released in 2015.  The Chair is a psychological horror which is created by Peter Simeti, and it revolves around the graphic novel of The Chair if you guys have read it - it's pretty awesome, hence explaining why I am looking forward to this awesome thriller coming in 2015.
As well as being a psychological horror, it contains aspects of strong crime and themes of capital punishment, child abuse, mental health, and the criminal justice system. The Chair is also not really considered as your average horror film, as it isn't like one of your slasher films, where you may find yourself running away from the film to escape the view of a masked man with a horrific weapon. The Chair seems like a very different film - perhaps more of an ugly tale, full of ugly people, and a realistic portrayal set in the realm of fiction.
The film is directed by Chad Ferrin, the screenplay designed by Erin Kohut, and the fantastic story itself is created by Peter Simeti.
The plot of this epic horror revolves around Richard Sullivan (Brian Thompson) as you will see on your right, who is an innocent man struggling to escape execution on death row.

Monday night horror! - The Blair Witch Project (1999)

In my opinion, I feel there is something very unique to this film. It's not one of your normal horror films, but instead it is merely recorded through an analogue video camera. Like, the whole film is. You could call it a documentary, but it is not very factual, but it is, very frightening!

To any of you guys who dislike horrors which make use of personal handheld recordings to compile the film, I must say, I was impressed with what I saw in this movie. Most of my friends were telling me to give it a watch, but until about a year ago, I was never going to watch it. I usually dislike horrors of this kind, which use handheld equipment, but I was very, VERY impressed with this. In fact, I was overwhelmed.

I usually feel there is no proper plot to any of these types of horrors, but the plot was clear through this film especially, and there was a fantastic eerie atmosphere sustained through the whole 81 minutes it lasts.

Epic horror for a Saturday night! - Drag Me To Hell (2009)

So for tonight, I've decided to give you guys a wee cool down from The Exorcist last night, by providing a review based on Drag Me To Hell (2009) which isn't quite as scary. However, don't expect no scares or jumps within this film, as after watching it, I thought it was incredibly scary. I remember watching this film in the cinema during the first few weeks of its release, and thought it was very frightening. You could however, state this was due to my younger age, although I re-watched it earlier this month and was amazed with how nervy I still was watching it even though I had anticipated everything coming.
I knew what to expect from the 99 minutes it lasts, however due to the sound FX and many more techniques, I still found myself jumping every now and again.

The Exorcist Itself (1973) - MUST WATCH

Although I label this as a'MUST WATCH' movie to all you horror fans, consequently, I must also warn you. Through the majority of reliable and trust-worthy sources, this is rated, by people all over the globe, as the scariest film in existence. I too, agree. I mean, for it to have been made in 1973 is absolutely unbelievable due to the quality filming and the insuppressible nerves it shocked me with. This is my last warning: Do Not, I repeat, Do Not watch this film if you are uncomfortable with movies which express the control Satan or spirits can have over our body, and if you like 'tame' horrors, as this will destroy you and possibly your sleep for the rest of your life.
Anyways, enough of the emphasis on how scary it is (although it must be addressed), it is a remarkable film, lasting a long 122 minutes full of intensely frightening, yet intriguing and possibly (to you) very disturbing scenes.
