Blog News/ Updates

Instead of writing a review tonight, I have prioritised updates. Basically instead of posting 3 times a week - Monday, Wednesday and Saturday - I have reduced this number to just 2 nights. Now some of you might be thinking "Why on earth would you do that?". Well, it's not that I don't dedicate enough time to my blog, as I constantly advertise, and involve myself in the horror community everyday. The quality of the posts is the problem.

Night of the Living Dead (1968) - favourite zombie horror

For me, this film, produced in 1968 originally black and white, is my favourite zombie film. It is honestly one of my favourite horrors of all time. It doesn't matter if it's really old, or lacks in quality. It is a masterpiece. I thought to myself - surely this film cannot deliver such an exquisite horror, after being made in 1968.

The House Of The Devil (1896)

The house of the devil is also known as "le manoir du diable" and is the first horror film ever to be made. You could call it a "horror film" although it really is a short horror due to its short run time. It consists of no sound whatsoever, and contains merely a bunch of random black and white animations. I think it is really funny and cool to see though, as a bat suddenly turns into a man, and it is pretty bizarre to watch. Some of the animations actually gave me goose bumps.

War Of The Worlds (2005) - decent sci-fi thriller

I have always adored this film since the first time I seen it. I remember when I first watched it - I was absolutely terrified, being only a young boy, and I had a pillow in front of my face for the majority of the film. It's quite funny actually when I think about it. Although, I've seen it several times since then and I must admit, it's a really good thriller in my opinion.

Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters (2013) - average action thriller

I began watching this film without expecting anything extremely good at all really. However, I had to watch it as one of my favourite fantasy tales when I was young was Hansel & Gretel. I was rather intrigued that a fantasy tale had been created into a gory thriller, and felt as though I had to see it. Not only does this film address the story,

Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street (2007) - Fantastic Depp!

Yes, I'm sorry to all you guys that hate horror musicals. Some people argue that musicals shouldn't even be associated with horror. I completely agree, however with the famous Johnny Depp in this film, I couldn't turn it down. After not expecting a lot from this film, I loved it. The acting was incredible, as was the gore content.

Elena - Chapter 8

Malcolm woke rather freshly at around 10am the following morning with thoughts bombarding inside his head as to what had happened the previous night. He looked to his left to see Cindy sleeping very peaceful which was good to see. However, he was still disturbed by her behaviour. Before attempting to wake Cindy without any violence or shouting, he went down for some breakfast. He tidied up the remainders of the wreck from the previous night, and within 5 minutes, he began to make some tea.

The Sixth Sense (1999) - Exceptional Psychological Thriller

What an absolutely fantastic piece of work directed by M. Night Shyamala. Honestly after watching this film I was overwhelmed. Not only is the film itself exceptional, but the film is perfectly concluded with a twist. One that you perhaps may have not expected, however I anticipated it coming later into the film. I'll do my best not to address any sort of spoilers but the ending is remarkable.

Elena - Chapter 7

"Cindy, you need to answer me right now... What's the matter?" said Malcolm, who was clearly trembling with fear. There was still no sign of Cindy to respond to this question, and Malcolm guessed from this sight that something was seriously wrong. Baldo was hovering behind Malcolm, also unaware of the current physical state of Cindy, but made a guess.

Awesome new horror web series! - Damnata

Once I came across the Damnata project, I was pretty interested to see how the same content is covered through comics, gaming and even now online! Basically, Damnata is a cross-platform project which merges gaming, comics, and online activity together through following the haunted life of the protagonist Elizabeth Kovacs and a unique and rich demon mythology.

Ouija (2014) - New Halloween Horror Preview

Today I'm going to compile a quick review on a horror which I am rather attracted to after watching several trailers. It has not released yet either in the UK or the US and the dates of release is as follows:

  • USA - 24/10/2014
  • UK - 31/10/2014
You guys might be thinking "Oh great, another ridiculous modern horror to exacerbate the horror genre!"

Carrie (2013) - no mercy...

WOW. This by far, is one of the best horrors I have seen in a long time! Believe it or not, I'm reviewing this masterpiece with no knowledge on the original film in 1976, and so perhaps the original may be better? You tell me! As you can see, it gets very decent ratings (well for a modern horror film anyway):-

  • IMDB - 6/10
  • Rotten Tomatoes - 49%
  • Metacritic - 53%
For me, Rotten Tomatoes were harsh on this film. I felt IMDB gave Carrie an appropriate score, since it was a very successful remake to me. There were plenty of thrilling moments, and the film revolved around a brilliant story of Carrie being bullied at school.

Stalkers Shadow - creepy short horror!

I have seen many short horror films on YouTube and I'm sure most of you guys probably have as well, but this one was awesome! You'll find Stalkers Shadow on YouTube on a channel called Horror shorts - https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCexaETvNqBrFXo5DHv1LpZw - and I recommend you check this video out!

Elena - Chapter 6

Within a few moments after calming his beloved wife Cindy, Malcolm quickly ran down the stairs to clean up. After closing the door, he heard a lot of people outside from the square. His instincts immediately suggested he should join them to see how long the power cut was going to last, and so he ran up to get Cindy who was now rather calm but still startled. After a couple of minutes, they left. Cindy had still not said a word since her attempt to convince her husband she had seen Elena.
In about 5 minutes time, after walking in silence Malcolm and Cindy had arrived in the square. Several small families and groups sat around a statue that was central to the square, and Malcolm began to ask anyone if they had seen Baldo.

Child's Play 3 (1991) - Brilliant ending!

Unfortunately for me, I thought this was a bit disappointing. As much as I love Chucky as one of my favourite horror characters, I was let down with this film. I was unsure about the idea of Andy Barclay (Justin Whalin) being relocated to a military school, as it kind of ruined the story. I feel that it was an unnecessary idea in the story, and it focused too much on the relationship between Andy and De Silva (Perrey Reeves) which also developed throughout the film. Here are the ratings for the film from IMDB:-

Elena - Chapter 5

Malcolm jumped at the sight of the missing bunny rabbit teddy and cursed quickly under his breath. "What's the matter?" Cindy exclaimed rather anxiously. Malcolm did not reply to this but merely, and very slowly, raised his hand to point his finger towards the desk where the bunny rabbit teddy was last seen. Cindy quickly glared round at this location and her eyes widened wider in pure shock. "Oh my God, what is happening! " said Cindy nervously.

My Soul To Take (2010) - really Wes Craven?

This shocker of a horror is a fine example of today's horrors and how they are such a letdown compared to your horrors from the 20th century. I would seriously recommend that no one goes near this horror as it is complete trash as the ratings below will show:-
